Ryan Quince Shaker Boxes traditional craft, contemporary feel
ABOUT
My Shaker Oval Boxes are based on original Shaker designs and use traditional techniques used by the Shaker communities 200 years ago.
The boxes are hand made by soaking the veneer bands in hot water and then bending the wood around forms. The bands are then clinched together using copper tacks, the tops and bottoms are fixed in with wooden pegs meaning there is no glue needed in the process.
The distinctive swallow tail joint at the front is not only graceful but practical, as it acts to prevent the wood from splitting.
The boxes, carriers and baskets are all made from top grade ply and cherry veneer, although other woods can be used.
My work can be made to order- please contact me for more information.
